The Sixteenth Annual Outsider Art Fair

James Kalm escorts viewers through an abbreviated tour of this year’s Outsider Art Fair. Über-hip bohemians and fashionably chic young collectors agree on the enigmatic appeal of authentic “outsider” art. As a last bastion of un-hyped creativity, these works strike a chord that goes beyond mere beauty and attracts us through complex psycho-social forces. Featuring works by George Widener, Morton Bartlett, Henry Darger, Agustin Lesage, Emery Blagbon and others.

gianni motti yoga frieze art fair

Frieze Art Fair London 2007 Gianni Motti’s Pre-emptive Act, a sort of performance piece for which he has enlisted the help of the police. Every so often, one of them comes and sits down in the middle of a main fair thoroughfare to practice yoga. What’s it mean? In our times of proliferating terrorism and great national and personal insecurity, Motti presents a humanist response to these circumstances with an image of calm. Mostly, though, it seemed people saw it as mix of the amusing and the absurd. www.friezefoundation.org www.nytimes.com

The Art Fair (Part 2) (High Quality)

After Angelica leaves the room after finishing her painting, the Rugrats come in and do finger-painting on it. After Angelica notices what they did, she chases them around the room in a fit of anger, splattering paint all over the place. When Charlotte notices this, she calls it a work of art, and hires her to redecorate Chas’s den. The moment comes when Charlotte enters Angelica into an art contest. But will the judge and the public know her “secret”?

NIN 26 Ghosts III – Timelapse – Ann Arbor Art Fair

My second submission to the NIN Film Festival The 2009 Art Fair ended today. It’s quite a mass of humanity to behold in B&W infrared timelapse photography. Being the 50th anniversary of the fair I thought it would be apropos to use vintage lenses from the 50s on the panasonic G1 and format this one 5×4. Enjoy!
